Joyce L. Allen Daly (1966)

Duane was an inspiration to everyone he came in contact with. He was such a presence at so many events. His positive outlook on life will live on with all who were privileged to know him. RIP big guy!

Well said, Tippy and Joyce.  He was an inspiration to so many of us.

I'm surprised that Allen Lazard has not been picked up by someone.

Jim.  Allen is currently on the Jaguars practice squad. https://www.jaguars.com/team/players-roster/

Yup.

What I meant is that at this time in the season, with injuries and some poor performances, I'm surprised no one has picked him up.  He could help some teams.

I see that three weeks ago, he was mentioned as a possible help for the Browns.

Lotsa receiver trades/moves recently.

That's a nice site.  Change the sport in the address line, and use links on the site, to see other stuff.

Anyone else like to check?

Richard Custer . . . you've got a little bit there.

Thanks, Jim.
My mom's name was on the list for an unclaimed check. She died 10 years ago. My husband's name also shows an unclaimed check. We haven't lived in Iowa since 1997. Guess we'll be filling a claim.

It's good to see Allen Lazard found an NFL team.

It would nice to see him get a bigger role, but his completion-to-target percentage is really good.

I mentioned the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt:

https://greatiowatreasurehunt.gov/app/claim-search

A few years ago I was snooping on it, and saw that Boesens the Florist and the Edwin T. Meredith Foundation both had a bit of treasure to claim, so I contacted them, and we had a little laugh.

Well, they both do again, so I contacted them again.

I was snooping on the Missouri one, and saw a company that had dozens of unclaimed treasures, so I contacted them.  I checked again, and they never claimed it.

It seems like the fair thing would be to give it to me, don't you think?

Back to that Bluejay discussion wherever we were having it, if you can open this:

it is the cover of the 1968 "Echo", and it says we were the "Fighting Jays."

In 1967 we were just the Bluejays.

that's my Yamaha 80 on the wing of the jet.  Not as cool as John Seiling's, Honda 90, but oh well.

The other half of the picture is on Classmates.

It's a shame about Allen Lazard.  He was just beginning to fit into the Packers gameplan.

I hope he has a full recovery.

It sounds like he will be practicing again this week so hopefully he is back playing soon.

I think if I played about another 17 years, I might have done what he did at Urbandale.cool

I stumbled onto the Register's "All Century" team, the top football players for 100 years, and Allen Lazard is 3rd Place for Ends:

https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/sports/high-school/2014/02/21/meet-the-readers-all-century-all-state-football-team/5711955/

Some others from Urbandale on the list, too.

Jim Beasley, I hope you saw the Packers game on Sunday with Allan Lazard's spectacular 58 yard reception in the 4th quarter for a touchdown that put the game away. To catch that ball while fully extended and maintain full stride and outrun two defenders was the highlight of the playoffs so far! I can't wait until the Tampa Bay game.

Also, the coverage was all over the DM TV stations---I can send you a link if you want!

Thanks.

Yup, I'm, following it closely.  He's a double fav because we both are Cyclone letter winners, although mine was not as hard-earned or as well deserved.

I'm also looking forward to playing again for Urbandale.  winkGotta catch up with Lazard's stats.

We've also been Chiefs fans for 40 years, so we have a conundrum.

All the teams left standing are good, and any of them could win the Super Bowl.

Hello!

I am planning the class of '11 10 year class reunion and haven't gotten far into the planning as I was waiting on the state of COVID before I got too far. I am seeking suggestions from previous reunion planning committees on what you are doing to accomidate safety of reunion attendees or looking to see if most are post poning their reunion for the following year.

Thank you!

File this under the category of Dense & Clueless:

Every now and then, one the our excellent school photographers would hand me a picture . . . catching a pass, doing a jumpball at North Polk, et al.  I was always grateful, and still have them today, in that stash that no one ever looks at or cares about!!!!

I would say thanks when they gave me one, and I assumed they were being compensated by the yearbook, or the school, or someone.  I felt great to think that they thought taking a picture of me was worthwhile.

But, I suspect they were not being compensated, and I should have ante'd up a few bucks to help them with their expenses.  I wasn't being a jerk; just clueless.

I'd be more than happy to pay, with a little interest, for those pictures taken 55 years ago!!!!

wink
