Pam K. Baker (Englin) - Class Of 1962

Obituaries in Des Moines, IA | The Des Moines Register  Pamela Englin, 77, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 28th, surrounded by her loved ones. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 5th, from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg, Iowa. A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 6th at 2:00 P.M. at Faith Lutheran Church in Spencer, Iowa. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Resthaven Cemetery in Des Moines. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to: Ingham Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp, People for Pets in Spencer or Above + Beyond Cancer in Des Moines.

Pamela Kay Englin was born October 17th, 1944 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Stanley and Catherine (Piva) Baker. She grew up in the Des Moines area, and graduated from Urbandale High School in 1962. She married Dan Collins in 1968 and they had two daughters together. Pam was employed by U.S. West Communications in Des Moines, where she worked for 30 years. In 1991 she married the love of her life, Gene Englin, and was also blessed with his three sons. Following her retirement in 1997, she moved to Emmetsburg, Iowa.

Pam had a compassionate spirit and was a loyal and loving friend to all who knew her, especially those in need. She was spunky and funny and had her own unique way of being. She cherished her family - her children, grandchildren, and the loving family she inherited when she married Gene.

Pam was a life-long fitness enthusiast. She enjoyed exercise of all kinds, including racquetball, cross-country skiing, swimming, biking and working out at the gym. She was also an avid spectator of a wide range of sports, and a faithful Iowa Hawkeye fan. Pam and Gene loved to travel and took many trips together, exploring both nature and historical landmarks throughout the country. She enjoyed gardening and birdwatching, and had great affection for all animals, especially her beloved dog, "Puppy".

Most recently, she enjoyed volunteering for Palo Alto Community Health to drive residents of the community to appointments. She was involved in the Ingham Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp and was active on the Quilt Auction Committee. She was a dedicated member of Faith Lutheran Church in Spencer.

Pam was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Catherine Baker and her brother, Mike Baker.

She is survived by her husband, Gene of Emmetsburg, Iowa; children, Stefanie Stenberg (John) of Des Moines, Iowa, Julie Collins (Ivan) of Johnston, Iowa, Jeff Englin (Alice) of Hayward, Minnesota; Dan Englin (Heather) of Waverly, Iowa, and Mike Englin ( Heather) of Clear Lake, Iowa; grandchildren, Anna Englin, Kaylee Stenberg, Josh Englin, Luke Stenberg, Nate Stenberg, Cameryn Stenberg, Jack Englin, Sam Englin, Lauren Englin and Mia Englin; her sister-in-law, Sherry Baker of Urbandale, Iowa; nephew, Curt Baker (Michelle); niece, Shelly Thompson (Scott); and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
