Thomas J. Betz - Class Of 1973

NORWALK — Thomas Betz, formerly a resident of Norwalk, died Oct. 7, 2017, in White Plaines, N.Y.

Tom was born in Sandusky, to Jeannette Irene (Beers) and Robert Leroy Betz.

He attended school through his sophomore year in high school in Norwalk, where he excelled in academics and music. The family moved to Warren, Pa., in 1971, and moved again, to Urbandale, Iowa, in 1973, where Tom graduated from Urbandale High School. He attended Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. He did not graduate, but moved to New York City to seek work in the music industry.

On Dec. 21, 1991, Tom married the love of his life, Joan Ferko. Tom worked as the IT manager at the Greyston Foundation, a social justice organization established to provide employment opportunities to people regardless of their background or work history, focusing on human growth and potential. Brownies produced at the Greyston Bakery are found in Ben and Jerry’s ice cream and at Whole Foods Markets.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; his father, Robert Betz; siblings, Debra (Mark) Ciskey, Beth Anne (Darren) Johnson, Dean (Patricia) Betz, and David Betz; numerous cousins; nieces; and nephews.

Tom was predeceased by his grandparents, Homer and Ione Beers, and Stanley Sr. and Bernice Betz; and mother, Jeannette.

The immediate family will gather during the Christmas season for a private memorial.
